Picture the scene: a gentle river winds through green plains. On the horizon, a plump orange sun rises behind a set of fluffy clouds. This isn't a pastoral painting or a picture-perfect scene ripped from the pages of a literary classic. This is an olfactory memory of Escentric 03.

Vetiveryl Acetate could be described as a hybrid molecule, half-synthetic, half-natural. It is a fraction of vetiver oil distilled from the roots of an Indian grass, which is then 'crossed' with acetic acid to remove the bitter and leathery aspects of the root.

Escentric 03 focuses on Vetiveryl Acetate in a formula that pays tribute to the three roots used in perfumery: vetiver, ginger and orris. "I wanted Escentric 03 to bring out the scent impressions of these roots and show how they harmonise with each other," says Geza Schoen.

Ginger dominates the top note, which is vibrant, green and spicy with lime peel and green peppercorn. The heart is a rich, velvety orris with Egyptian jasmine and tea notes. The drydown reveals the complex earthiness of vetiver combined with sandalwood, cedar, mellow balsams and musk.

The result is a spicy but fresh and elegant chypre with woody, balsamic notes — that heady hit of dark green woodiness when you walk past tropical grass, but far smoother and softer.

The subtle harmony of green impressions in Escentric 03 equates to a sense of wonder through a rampant wilderness, packing an aroma of crackling autumnal roots that steal the sultry heat of summer.
