Revered for its fiery color and distinctive scent, saffron’s delicate threads must be harvested by hand, early in the morning to avoid damage from the sun. one hundred thousand crocus flowers are needed to produce just one kilogram of saffron, making saffron so precious, it is often referred to as 'red gold'.
